Houston Methodist Hospital

Houston Methodist has several hospitals and other facilities located throughout the Greater Houston area. Houston Methodist Hospital was ranked the #1 hospital in Texas by U.S. News. They have a large facility that offers a full spectrum of care and treatment options.

Houston Methodist Hospital and Medicare

If you live in the Houston, Texas area and are on Medicare, you’re probably wondering if your plan will be accepted at Houston Methodist Hospital. To find out, you’ll first need to determine what kind of Medicare coverage you have. Let’s review your Medicare options and discuss how they may work with Houston Methodist Hospital.

Traditional Medicare

We’ll start with Traditional Medicare, also called Original Medicare. Medicare Parts A and B make up Traditional Medicare and offer coverage for hospital stays and outpatient services, respectively. Part A will help pay for your room and board expenses while in the hospital and Part B will help pay for visits to your doctor, surgeries, diagnostics, and many preventive procedures.

You can use Medicare Parts A and B all over the U.S. Most healthcare providers and facilities across the country accept Medicare assignment, which means they have agreed to accept the fees set by the Medicare program. Houston Methodist Hospital accepts Medicare assignment.

Medicare Supplements

Medicare supplements, also called Medigap plans, are one way Medicare beneficiaries choose to supplement their coverage under Medicare Parts A and B. Since Traditional Medicare does not cover medical expenses at 100%, a Medicare supplement can help beneficiaries pick up those leftover costs.

There are currently ten Medigap plans available, but three of them, Plans F, G, and N, are the most popular among Medicare beneficiaries. These plans pick up nearly all the costs left by Parts A and B and leave the policyholder with virtually no out-of-pocket expenses.

Like Traditional Medicare, Medicare supplements do not operate on networks. As long as your provider accepts Medicare, they will accept your Medicare supplement, regardless of which health insurance company you purchased it from.

Medicare Advantage Plans

Medicare Advantage plans do rely on networks of physicians and facilities to provide care for their plan members. There are several types of MA plans, and all of them have their own networks. Some offer coverage outside of the network, while others do not.

While this is a limitation of Medicare Advantage plans, these policies can still provide great coverage for a minimal monthly premium. Individuals who enroll in one of these plans will need to verify the network status of their providers.

This is true for individuals who receive care at Houston Methodist Hospital, although the hospital is in-network with many Medicare Advantage plans.
